Ripa Concrete Cutting were engaged by Dinkum Building Services to saw cut and demolish a house at Queenscliff NSW which was once believed to be owned by Paul Hogan.

Ripa were initially tasked with demolishing the existing garage roof as it was a conventionally poured slab with one metre overhangs and step down beams. The concerns they faced included dust mitigation and excessive noise to the neighbouring residents.

By using their Husqvarna DXR300 demolition robot and crusher, Ripa crushed their way through the bulk of the slab and were then able to hammer off the overhangs by positioning their Husqvarna DXR140 demolition robot on top of the slab with angled formwork and catch decks (installed for safety). This allowed for Ripa to slide the debris back into the property for them to later remove via a small skid steer loader into tipper trucks.

Once Dinkum Building Services had seen the method and quality of Ripa’s works, they then decided to engage Ripa Concrete Cutting to further assist with the partial demolition and excavation of the remaining five levels (down to the water’s edge).

To start, a 60 tonne mobile crane was organized to lift Ripa’s DXR140 and Brokk 160 silent demolition robots, Cormidi dumper and skid steer loader onto the other roof (the house level was down one floor to the roof level from the street).

Ripa then began demolishing sections of concrete slabs (that they had previously cut using a track mounted wall saw) by using two of their demolition robots to hammer and knock down double brick walls and suspended concrete slabs whilst removing all concrete and rubble via their skid steer loader and dumpers. These were then hoisted up to street level where the rubble and concrete were separated into their respective piles and loaded for removal.

This method continued for each floor, working downwards, until Ripa had reached the bottom of the house (five levels down).

The final step was to begin the rock excavation works which would allow an additional level of living space to be added. Ripa achieved this by hammering out the rock using their demolition robots. Due to working five levels down, an additional conveyor was installed which would allow the debris to raise up to street level for removal.

This project was well thought out and meticulously planned with a strong emphasis on safety.
